About us

Cape Handlers Dog Club was founded in 1987 by a group of passionate dog enthusiasts who wanted to create a welcoming space where handlers and their dogs could train, learn, and grow together. Since its beginnings, the club has developed into a vibrant community dedicated to promoting responsible dog ownership and the enjoyment of dog sport.

Based in Cape Town, Cape Handlers offers a supportive environment for handlers of all experience levels – from those starting out with a new puppy to teams competing in advanced canine sports. The club is affiliated with the Kennel Union of Southern Africa, the official governing body for dog sports in the country, ensuring that training and competitions follow recognised standards.

Our goal is to build strong partnerships between dogs and their handlers through positive, structured training. Members have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities, including obedience, agility, rally obedience, flyball, and working trials.

At Cape Handlers, we believe that training should be enjoyable for both dog and handler. The club prides itself on its friendly atmosphere, experienced instructors, and a community that supports learning, teamwork, and the special bond between people and their dogs.
